In April 2023, a poll was conducted among 237 presidential scholars to rank our presidents from the greatest to the worst. In a field of forty-five chief executives, Abraham Lincoln was ranked as our greatest president. Why? Professor Gerald Henig will present an overview of the man and his presidency, separating fact from fiction. While focusing on Lincoln's personal life as a son, husband, and father, Henig will also explore the president's role as commander in chief, masterful politician, Great Emancipator, and skilled communicator. Gerald S. Henig is professor emeritus of history at California State University, East Bay, where he received the Outstanding Professor Award and won the Pi Kappa Delta Best Lecturer Award an unprecedented four times. He is the author of four books, including America's Presidents: What Your History Teacher Never Told You, which has received national recognition.
