Join San Mateo County Libraries, the Atherton Arts Foundation, and Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California for a lecture and slideshow with artist Madhvi Subrahmanian. Driven by the transitions of her peripatetic life—the opportunities and challenges of constant relocation—Madhvi explores the shifting relationship between place, belonging, memory and identity. Drawing from her daily life and the world around her, she examines the intersection between personal and collective memories, exploring how familiar forms, patterns and ideas can be reinterpreted to take on new meanings and associations. The rhythm of repetition is central to Madhvi’s practice. Her installations are often composed of multiples, creating immersive and experiential environments through scale, density, light, shadow and participation. Her practice moves between sculpture and installation, creating works that transform space and invite viewers to experience themselves within it. Artist Bio Born in Mumbai, Madhvi Subrahmanian lives between Singapore and Mumbai, and she has been showing with Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai, since 2004. She is a founding member and co-curator of the Indian Ceramics Triennale and an elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Geneva. She has also served on the advisory board of Hampi Art Labs, India. Registration is encouraged but not required.
