About
A “trash container” refers to a watertight and rodent-proof container with a tight-fitting lid.A trash container shall be a city-provided trash container. However, for up to two years following the implementation date of these rules (09/28/2018), residents may use up to three (3) secondary trash containers no larger than 35 gallons. Beginning three years following the implementation date (09/28/2018), residents may have up to three (3) city-provided trash containers. The city will provide one city-provided trash container at no cost to the resident. Additional city-provided trash containers may be purchased from the City at 100% of the container's cost.Waste receptacles must be placed on the curb after 7:00 PM the day before waste collection and no later than 7:00 AM the day of collection. If a holiday falls on a regularly scheduled waste collection day, waste collection will be rescheduled to the following business day.* Bulk trash collection is by appointment only on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month and must be scheduled in advance. Please call 301-985-6558 by 12:00 noon on the Friday before the scheduled collection date.** December through February, yard waste is collected on the 2nd Monday of the month. NO APPOINTMENT IS REQUIRED.* Electronic Recycling may ONLY be dropped off at the Department of Public Works on the following Saturday drop-off dates: March 16, June 15, September 21, and December 21.
