In this workshop, participants will learn the steps of creating a handsewn saddle-stitch booklet and leave with their own creations! Saddle-stitch binding refers to books made of folded pages bound in the centerfold, typically with staples or bookbinding thread. We’ll work with waxed and linen bookbinding thread, as well as needles, awls, bone folders, and other bookbinding materials to sew a simple three- or five-stitch blank journal or booklet of their own original writing or art. The library will provide all materials, including blank paper for interior and cover options. This craft is for all skill levels, particularly those with little to no bookmaking or sewing experience. Additionally, we’ll discuss the many different methods of bookbinding and see examples of various bindings, from the DIY to the professional. Registration is required, as supplies are limited. NOTE: This is the same workshop that the library hosted in October 2025, though all are welcome to register and attend regardless of past attendance. Be advised, we will be using sharp materials, such as awls, needles, scissors, paper cutters, and mounted blades (like X-Acto knives).
