Our high intermediate / advanced ESL Book Club will read The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan . This book club is best for high intermediate / advanced English learners. Students will read at home each week. Then we will meet as a group once a week to talk about the story, learn new vocabulary, and practice conversation. Book club will be led by Sheila Jurik. Dates: August 31; September 14, 21, 28 (No class September 7); October 5, 12, 19, 26; November 2, 9, 16, 30 (No class November 23); December 7, 14 Meeting Time: 10:15am - 11:45am Where: Back tables along the windows Led by: Sheila Jurik Registration is open now! Book club is limited to 9 participants. Books will be provided for registered participants to keep. Please consider your schedule and do not register if you will miss more than one meeting. The Joy Luck Club description: In 1949, four Chinese immigrant women in San Francisco form the Joy Luck Club to play mah jong, share memories, and support one another through loss and hope. As mothers and daughters confront family secrets, cultural expectations, and generational conflict, they discover how love can help heal misunderstanding and bridge the past with the future.
