
Black Holes and Quantum Mechanics

This talk presented by Tom Hartman explores how they provide a testing ground for ideas about quantum mechanics, gravity, and the nature of spacetime. We will take a whirlwind tour through several topics of current research in theoretical physics, including the black hole information paradox, the surprising connections between wormholes and quantum computing, and unanswered questions about the Big Bang. About the Presenter: Tom Hartman is a theoretical physicist studying quantum gravity and quantum field theory. He is a professor of physics at Stanford, where he moved recently after being on the faculty at Cornell. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, and his research on black holes and holographic duality has been recognized with the Presidential Early Career Award and the Frontiers of Science Award.
